This credit union is a member-owned, democratically operated, not-for-profit organization managed by a volunteer board of directors, with the specified mission of meeting the credit and savings needs of consumers, especially persons of modest means. The purpose of this credit union is to promote thrift among its members by affording them an opportunity to accumulate their savings and to create for them a source of credit for provident, productive purposes.
In other words the Credit Union exists to provide low cost loans to its members, provide loans to members whose credit score would not enable them to get a loan at a commercial bank, and to help members increase their net worth.
The Credit Union is owned by its members, in other words, YOU.
Only Carilion employees or Carilion retirees, their immediate family or household members, and employees of some Carilion contractors are eligible to become members.
The Credit Union Provides:
- Interest bearing Regular Savings Accounts (called Share Accounts in a credit union)
- Specialty Savings Accounts (Christmas Club, Vacation, Education, and many others)
- Low Interest Loans (Car, Motorcycle, Boat, or Personal Loans) to members who may not qualify for a loan at other institutions.
- Direct Deposit into savings accounts and to make loan payments, from your Carilion or another employer’s paycheck, or from your pension, Social Security, or SSI. The Credit Union can also draft your checking account for deposits and payments.
Each account is Federally insured up to $250,000.
Joining takes about 5 minutes and a minimum deposit of $15, along with your Driver’s License or other government issued photo ID and your Carilion ID badge.
